Colonel's Cupboard Partners with Local Food Pantries
Last semester we received nearly 6,000 pounds of food from our fellow Colonels which will help feed many of our hungry students. We now have a huge selection of food for students. Given the nature of our pantry and our prepackaged food boxes, we often receive food that will not be used before the “best by” date.
In order to insure that food does not go to waste, we have recently began to donate food to community partners. Last semester we donated around 309 pounds of food to Grace Now in Richmond and around 150 pounds of food to a residence hall “free table”. This morning’s donation is a a reminder of the partnership shared between EKU and the Richmond community.
Mariah Farran, the AmeriCorps VISTA for the Colonel’s Cupboard, noted that, “We are happy to be able to serve our students and the community with each of our food drives.” She also noted that we are on record to break the number of students served in an academic year.
