Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service - Jan 18, 2016
Last July flash flooding in Johnson County led to unspeakable losses of both life and livelihood. The Lexington Herald-Leader reports hundreds of homes may have suffered damage with 150 homes destroyed. In continued support of the recovery efforts, the Community Service program will observe MLK Day of Service by sending a University group to Johnson County comprised of students, faculty, administrators and staff, to assist with home repair.
Volunteers (who will need to bring gloves) will leave campus at 6:30 am for an 8:30 a.m. orientation and breakfast with Good Neighbors, a non-profit organization working with the Johnson County Long-Term Recovery Group to help coordinate volunteer efforts. Volunteers will return that evening at approximately 5 p.m.
Lunch will be provided.
